The new program of scientific lectures 2023/2024

The Museo Egizio is launching its program of scientific lectures for the 2023/2024 season: a rich calendar of events featuring international researchers, museum curators, and directors from the world's most prestigious museum institutions taking turns.

This is a valuable opportunity to discover ongoing research on the collection directly from those conducting it, to delve into discoveries, recent excavations, and the most important international archaeological studies, and to reflect on the present and future of museums with directors from around the world.

Thanks to the precious collaboration of the ACME Association (Friends and Collaborators of the Museo Egizio), the public will have the chance to learn about the latest developments in Egyptology research directly from scholars from Italian and international universities and research institutions.

Xavier Droux (Gandur Foundation for Art, Geneva) will open the conference season on October 19, 2023, and will discuss material culture and iconography of the Predynastic period.

The Director of the Museum, Christian Greco, will speak about the Museo Egizio two hundred years after its founding, and Luigi Prada (University of Uppsala and President of the ACME Association) will deliver a talk titled "The Muse in the Museum: The Museo Egizio of Turin as a Creator of Literature."

"What is a Museum?" returns, the series of meetings designed to reflect on the future of museums and to guide the Museo Egizio through a journey of physical transformation and innovation in anticipation of its bicentenary. We will host many new discussions to reflect on the role and challenges of museums. The first meeting of the new season will be on November 9, 2023, with Miguel Falomir Faus (National Prado Museum, Madrid).

The conference program is conducted in collaboration with the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Turin.

During English-language sessions, simultaneous translation services will be available for the in-person audience.

The events will take place in the Conference Room, with free admission and reservations available on Eventbrite.

All events will also be live-streamed on the Facebook page and YouTube channel of Museo Egizio.
