“In search of life”: discover the new gallery display at the heart of the museum

"In search of life. What do human remains tell?" is a new permanent exhibition space dedicated to life in ancient Egypt and the study of human remains. It explores the theme of life in ancient Egypt and the concept of afterlife through the study of human remains and funerary kits that accompany them. It does so thanks to six individuals, purposely chosen of different ages to show the various phases of existence, from the not even blossoming of a fetus to the advanced maturity of a fifty-year-old woman.

The fulcrum of the new room is a special case set up to contain 91 mummies that are part of the Museum's collection: thanks to a film, six of these special mummies are revealed to the public, representing the fundamental stages of life.

A particular space is also dedicated to mummification and its symbolic and religious meanings. The room deals not only with the study of human remains, but also with the theme of their exhibition and the consequent ethical implications. This highly complex theme sees the Museum engaged in constant dialogue with its public and with the national and international scientific community.
